When I first took my puppy home I had a wire playpen waiting for her. This has been one of the best buys we have made. We use it all the time, as a gate to restrict her access to parts of the house when we need to, as a safe place to keep her outside, and generally to make life more comfortable for her and us. This is one piece of equipment we couldn’t manage without.
We also had a wire crate waiting for her. Again this was a fabulous buy. When she was a puppy it was her den and her safe place. She loved it. When she was small enough to actually physically climb over the wire playpen we used the crate to keep her confined when we needed to. If we wanted to go to the beach we could put the crate in the back of the station wagon and keep her safe in there. Altogether it was a great idea to crate train her.
When I looked for dog dishes for her I went for large stainless steel dishes. These are clean, practical, hygienic and unbreakable. If you have trouble with ants enjoying the doggie dinner then you might like to get one of these anti-ant pet bowls.
A dog collar and leash are necessaries. She needed new ones as she grew. The way to measure the collar is to make sure you can fit two fingers comfortably between the collar and the neck.
Toys, lovely toys! As a puppy, Merry Heart chewed through many toys a week. She loves squeaky toys and furry toys like this one but she was not too keen on balls.
